August 17th: Business as Usual While Many Panic Over the NAR Lawsuit Requirements
August 17th, 2024
Mark it on your calendars, fellow REALTORS®, buyers and sellers, because that’s the day we’re all supposed to hit the panic button. Or at least, that’s what everyone seems to be saying. Thanks to the recent NAR lawsuit settlement, we’ve been given our marching orders to amend the way we do business, and naturally, the sky is falling.
But Hold On…
Before you start frantically reorganizing your files and drafting up new contracts in a sweat-induced frenzy, let’s take a step back. Yes, the lawsuit has brought some changes, and sure, they’re asking us to make a few tweaks. But let’s be real, it’s not like we haven’t been here before. In the world of real estate, change is the only constant, right?
Whether it’s new regulations, market shifts, or that time everyone decided open floor plans were the only way to live, we’ve always adapted and thrived.
So, what’s the big deal about August 17th? Sure, the NAR wants us to tweak a few things like being more transparent about commissions and making sure our clients understand how we get paid. But newsflash: we’ve already been doing most of this. It’s called being a good REALTOR®. This new settlement just means putting a little more emphasis on what we do best; communicating clearly with our clients and ensuring they know exactly what they’re getting (and paying for).
It’s No Big Deal
So, come August 17th, I’ll be adjusting a few forms, maybe sending out a couple of extra emails, and then getting right back to doing what I do best: helping people find their dream homes and making the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. The way I see it, this is just another day at the office except now I have a handy reminder to update my paperwork.
The way I see it from my desk, it’s just business as usual.
